New for 2004 is optional 4.0 liter SOHC V6 engine that not only delivers more power, but also emits low emissions. The new engine can achieve 1 mpg more mileage than the available 4.0 liter V6 version.

The standard engine to the 2001 Ford Ranger model include a 2.3 liter I-4 version that delivers 143 hp of power at 5250 rpm and torque of 154 lb ft at 3750 rpm. The engine comes with four valves per cylinder and double overhead cam. It has the bore size of 87.4 mm, stroke of 94.0 mm and compression ratio of 9.7 The fuel tank in the engine has the capacity to fill up to 17.0 gallons of unleaded fuel.

The standard braking and handling features equipped in the 2001 Ford Ranger model include spacesaver steel rim spare wheel, antilock braking system, two disc brakes including two ventilated discs, immobilizer, wishbone front suspension with coil springs and stability control and electronic brake distribution.
